# How to contact Instagram support: every official channel

By PostMesh team. Published 2026-10-31; updated 2026-10-31.

Instagram has no general phone number or email for customer support: you contact it through the Help Center, the Meta AI support assistant, Report a problem in the app, and the hacked-account flow at instagram.com/hacked. Human chat and email support comes with an active Meta Verified subscription, and Meta says phone numbers claiming to be Meta support are potentially scams.

Searching for an Instagram support number is how a lot of people end up talking to a scammer. Instagram's real support channels are almost all inside the app or the Help Center, and each one handles a specific kind of problem. This guide lists every channel Instagram and Meta document, what each is for, the exact tap paths from Instagram's own help pages, and how to tell a real Instagram message from a fake one.

## The short answer

Instagram's page on [points of support and contact](https://help.instagram.com/639208781107982) says the quickest way to find support is the Instagram Help Center, and that for most issues it's the easiest way. Beyond that, the right channel depends on your problem. Locked out or hacked: the recovery flow and instagram.com/hacked. Something broken: Report a problem. A post removed or an account disabled: Account Status and the on-screen review. A Meta Verified subscriber: Meta Verified support, which has human agents.

Meta's page on [phone support](https://help.instagram.com/1267233311582177) is blunt about the rest: Meta, including Instagram, doesn't have a general public phone number for customer service, and phone numbers claiming to be for Meta customer support are potentially scams that should be avoided.

**What do you need Instagram's help with?**
- I can't log in, or someone took over my account → Use the login link or security code flow on the login screen, or go to instagram.com/hacked in a browser.
- A feature is broken or the app keeps failing → Update the app, then use Report a problem: shake your phone or go through Menu › Help.
- A post was removed or my account was disabled → Request a review from Account Status or follow the on-screen instructions at login.
- I pay for Meta Verified → Use Meta Verified support in the mobile app for chat, email and, on some plans, a call.

*Pick the channel that matches your problem. A general support line doesn't exist.*

| Your problem | Official channel | Where it is |
| --- | --- | --- |

| Removed content or restricted features | Account Status | Profile › Menu › Account Status |
| Disabled account | On-screen review | The notice you see when you log in |
| Someone pretending to be you | Impersonation report | Report on their profile, or Instagram's form if you have no account |
| Meta Verified subscriber issue | Meta Verified support | Profile › Menu › Meta Account › Meta Verified › Get support |
| Ads and advertiser accounts | Meta Business Support Home | Through Meta's business tools |

## Does Instagram have a phone number or email for support?

Not a general one. Meta's phone support page says Meta, including Meta company products such as Instagram, Threads, Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp, doesn't have a general public phone number for customer service. It adds that Meta may offer specialist phone support in certain jurisdictions or with certain products or features. In practice, the only phone support Instagram documents for individuals is the call-back option in some Meta Verified plans.

There's also no general support inbox. The email addresses Instagram does publish have narrow jobs:

- phish@instagram.com, for forwarding strange emails that pretend to be from Instagram, per Instagram's [phishing page](https://help.instagram.com/670309656726033).
- Official sending addresses, so you can check whether a security email is real. Instagram's [recent emails page](https://help.instagram.com/760602221058803) lists @support.facebook.com, @support.instagram.com, @facebookmail.com, @mail.instagram.com and @global.metamail.com.
- security@mail.instagram.com, the sender of the email-change warning that contains a Secure my account option, per the [hacked account page](https://help.instagram.com/149494825257596).

If Instagram emails you about a report you made, the points-of-support page says to reply directly to that email so the team can keep looking into it. That reply thread is a real support conversation, but only Instagram can start it.

- 0: General public phone numbers for Meta customer service
- 14 days: How far back you can see official Instagram emails in settings
- 24/7: Email support hours for Meta Verified subscribers
- 7 days: Before an unanswered Meta Verified case closes

*The support numbers Instagram's help pages actually publish.*

## How do I use the Instagram Help Center?

The [Instagram Help Center](https://help.instagram.com/) is self-serve: articles on account settings, privacy and security, reporting and every feature. A few habits make it far more useful:

- Search for the message you see, not your guess at the cause. Searching the words on your screen finds the matching article faster.
- Switch the article to your device. Many articles have tabs for Computer, Android, iPhone, iPad and mobile browser, and the steps differ between them.
- Read the related articles at the bottom. Instagram often splits one problem across several short pages.
- Look for country notes. Some articles carry region-specific rules, and a few pages show that their content isn't relevant in your location.

For advertising questions, the points-of-support page sends you to the Meta Business Help Center instead. And if you want an answer in conversation rather than an article, the Help Center also hosts Instagram's AI assistant, below.

## How do I chat with Instagram's Meta AI support assistant?

Instagram's [AI support assistant page](https://help.instagram.com/2045270819367334) describes a chat assistant available only on Facebook and Instagram. In the app, here's the path it gives:

Instagram app: Profile › Menu › More info and support › Meta AI support assistant

*Opens a new chat with Instagram's AI support assistant.*

From the Help Center in a browser, you need to be logged in to Instagram on that browser. Then, from any Help Center page, choose Ask a question, type your question or pick a suggested one, and send it.

### What the assistant can do

- Troubleshoot problems with features, settings or updating your password, with step-by-step instructions.
- Answer how-to questions and point you to the right Help Center articles.
- Walk you through processes such as appealing a content decision or securing an account you think was compromised.
- Check your account status, such as monetization eligibility or violations.

### What to keep in mind

Instagram says plainly that AI can make mistakes, and asks you to tap Thumbs down under a wrong answer. It also says the assistant has access to some general information about your account, such as account status, recent activity and device type, and that your conversations help improve it. Treat its answers like a helpful colleague's: good for finding the right screen, worth double-checking against the help article before you act on anything that can't be undone.

## How do I report a problem to Instagram?

For bugs and broken features, Instagram's [technical problem page](https://help.instagram.com/381579045265733) says to update the app first. If it still doesn't work, report it. There are two ways in the Android and iPhone apps.

1. **Shake your phone**: Shake the phone while the problem is on screen to open the reporting menu, then tap Report a problem and follow the instructions. You can turn shake-to-report on or off from the same menu.
2. **Or go through settings**: From your profile, tap Menu, tap Help below More info and support, then tap Report a problem. You can go back and shake at the problem, or tap Report problem without shaking.
3. **Describe it fully**: Instagram asks for as much detail as possible: the phone or tablet you used, what you were doing when it happened, and a screenshot.
4. **Decide on logs**: You can tap Include complete logs and diagnostics to send activity, network and crash logs. It's optional and helps Instagram reproduce the bug.

Instagram app: Profile › Menu › Help › Report a problem

*The settings route to Report a problem, if shaking your phone is turned off.*

The same page says information about your device and account related to the issue is included automatically, that Instagram stores reports only as long as needed to resolve the issue, and that the information may be processed in the United States. It also notes that a feature may simply not be available to everyone yet, which is worth ruling out before you report something as broken.

> Report a problem is for bugs. It isn't the place to appeal a removed post or a disabled account, and Instagram doesn't promise a personal reply to bug reports.

### Upload and posting problems

Before reporting a failed upload, check the basics. Instagram's [app troubleshooting page](https://help.instagram.com/518372316681740) says older app versions stopped being supported in May 2022, suggests updating, and reminds you that instagram.com works from a computer or mobile browser if the app is misbehaving. For videos, length and file limits are a common cause; our guide to [posting a long video on Instagram](/blog/how-to-post-a-long-video-on-instagram) lists them. If you mostly post from a computer, see [whether you can post on Instagram from a desktop](/blog/can-you-post-on-instagram-from-desktop).

## How do I get help if my account was hacked or I can't log in?

Account recovery is the one area where Instagram offers a support request with a reply. Instagram's [hacked account page](https://help.instagram.com/149494825257596) gives these steps in order, and says some may not be available depending on the account, so try them all.

1. **Check your email for Instagram's warning**: If security@mail.instagram.com told you your email address changed, select Secure my account in that message to undo it.
2. **Request a login link**: On the login screen, tap Forgot password?, enter your username, email or phone number, tap Continue, pick where to send the link, then tap the link you receive.
3. **Request a security code or support**: If the link doesn't work, tap Get help logging in below Log in, enter your details, tap Can't reset your password?, then Need more help?, and choose Send security code.
4. **Use a secure email address**: If you can't access the email or phone on the account, tap I can't access this email or phone number and enter an address only you can reach. Instagram emails next steps there.
5. **Verify your identity**: For an account without photos of you, Instagram asks for the email or phone you signed up with and the type of device you used. For an account with photos of you, it asks for a video selfie.

1. Secure my account link in Instagram's email
2. Login link from Forgot password?
3. Security code from Need more help?
4. Secure email address you control
5. Identity check: details or video selfie

*Try each recovery step in order before anything else.*

If someone else has access or you can't log in at all, Instagram points you to [instagram.com/hacked](https://www.instagram.com/hacked/) in a desktop or mobile browser. Instagram says the video selfie is never visible on Instagram and is deleted within 30 days, and that if it can't confirm your identity from one video, you can submit a new one.

### If you lost access to your email or phone number

Instagram's [lost email page](https://help.instagram.com/358911864194456) gives a slightly different route: tap Forgot password? at the bottom of the login screen, enter your username, tap Try another way, tap No longer have access to these?, and follow the instructions to submit a support request. The same page is honest about the limit: if you can't access the email account you registered with and didn't link your Instagram and Facebook accounts, Instagram says it's unable to give you access. It also says Instagram can't help you get back into the email account itself; that's your email provider's job.

### If you forgot your username

You don't need support for this. Instagram's [forgotten username page](https://help.instagram.com/1645522102409931) says you can log in with the phone number or email address on the account instead, then find your username at the top of your profile. If you think a hacker changed your username, check for an email from Instagram saying your account information changed, and ask a friend to visit your profile and screenshot your current username. If you're picking a new handle afterward, the [Instagram handle checker](/tools/instagram-handle-checker) tests it against Instagram's length and character rules before you try it in the app.

### If you can still log in but something's wrong

The hacked page lists what to do: change your password, turn on two-factor authentication, confirm your phone number and email in settings are correct, remove linked accounts you don't recognize in Accounts Center, and revoke access for suspicious third-party apps.

## How do I contact Instagram about a disabled account or removed post?

Enforcement decisions don't go through a support agent. They go through review tools built into the app.

- Disabled account: Instagram's [disabled account page](https://help.instagram.com/366993040048856) says to log in and follow the on-screen instructions to request a review. No email or phone route is listed.
- Removed post, story or comment: request a review from the violation notification, from Account Status, or from Support requests under Violations, per Instagram's [review page](https://help.instagram.com/280908123309761). It may take up to 90 days to hear back.
- Restricted features: [Account Status](https://help.instagram.com/338481628002750) shows features you can't use and lets you take action.
- Decision upheld: some content decisions can then go to the [Oversight Board](https://help.instagram.com/675885993348720), within 15 days.

Our guide to an [Instagram account suspended](/blog/instagram-account-suspended) explains how to tell a disabled account from a temporary action block, and the [disabled account appeal guide](/blog/instagram-account-disabled-appeal) walks through the review itself.

## How do I contact Meta Verified support?

This is the closest thing Instagram has to a traditional help desk. Instagram's [Meta Verified support page](https://help.instagram.com/261957349507759) says creators with an active Meta Verified subscription get enhanced support with direct help from human agents through chat and email, and that subscriber requests are prioritized for faster responses.

| Support type | Which plans include it |
| --- | --- |
| Chat with an agent | All plans |
| Email support, 24/7 | All plans |
| Prioritized support | Plus, Premium, Max |
| Phone: request a call from an agent | Premium, Max |
| Dedicated monitoring of your cases | Max |

Here's the Instagram path from the help page. Support on Instagram works only in the mobile app, not on computers, and may not work in mobile browsers.

Instagram app: Profile › Menu › Meta Account › Meta Verified › Get support › Contact support

*Then choose chat, email or a call, depending on your plan.*

### What Meta Verified support covers

- Managing your Meta Verified subscription.
- Payments, billing and refunds for the subscription.
- Questions about your verification status.
- General access or security issues.
- Profile editing, review and management.

### How Meta Verified cases work

You get a case ID number when you contact support; keep it for follow-ups. Cases show statuses such as Received, In progress or Completed, and you can reply while a case is open. If you don't respond to the agent within seven days, the case closes automatically, and closed cases can't be reopened. You can only have one active chat at a time. Email support runs 24/7, while chat and phone hours vary by language and region and show when you pick a channel.

### Who can subscribe

Instagram's [eligibility page](https://help.instagram.com/2419286908233223) lists the requirements for creators: be at least 18 or the age of majority where you live, be in a country where Meta Verified is available, have a government-issued photo ID, have an eligible personal or creator profile with Advanced Protection turned on that meets minimum activity requirements, and not exceed a limit on recent profile changes such as name, picture or username. Businesses have a separate Meta Verified for businesses help center.

**Free channels**
- Help Center and AI assistant
- Report a problem for bugs
- Recovery flow for lost access
- In-app reviews for enforcement
- No human chat or phone

**Meta Verified support**
- Human agents by chat and email
- Prioritized on Plus and above
- Call-back on Premium and Max
- Case ID and status tracking
- Mobile app only on Instagram

*What a Meta Verified subscription adds to Instagram's free support options.*

> Meta Verified support helps with access, security and subscription issues. Meta's page doesn't say it can reverse an enforcement decision, so treat it as a faster line to a person, not a way around the review process.

## How do I report an account, a post or impersonation?

Reporting content is a support channel too. The points-of-support page says to go to the image or post, tap the three-dot menu and choose the report option. For impersonation, Instagram's [impersonation page](https://help.instagram.com/1291391774792379) gives these steps:

1. **Open the impostor's profile**: Tap their username from a post or story, or search for it.
2. **Open the options**: Tap Options in the top right of the profile, then tap Report.
3. **Choose the reason**: Tap Something about this account, then They're pretending to be someone else.
4. **Finish the report**: Select the type of impersonation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Instagram says reports are anonymous, except intellectual property reports, so the account won't see who reported it. If you're being impersonated but don't have an Instagram account, the same page links to a form, and there's another form if the impostor is copying someone you're authorized to represent, such as your child. Instagram notes you can report an account for impersonating someone, not for misrepresenting itself.

### If an account is using your brand name

A look-alike username isn't always impersonation. Instagram's [trademark username page](https://help.instagram.com/2039132876317734) says usernames are generally claimed first-come, first-served, and that not every use of your trademark in a username is infringement, since the same word in a different context may not violate it. It suggests contacting the person first to try to resolve it, then reporting the username if you're sure it infringes. Instagram's [related trademark page](https://help.instagram.com/101826856646059) adds that usernames are provided first-come, first-served and may not be reserved. If the account is actively pretending to be your business, use the impersonation report above instead.

### If you can't see the content or have no account

Instagram's page on [reporting without an account](https://help.instagram.com/967386582228551) suggests asking a friend with an account to report it using the report link near the content, and including links and screenshots, because Instagram can't act until it finds the content.

### Checking the status of a report

Instagram's [report status page](https://help.instagram.com/484700649522086) says you may be able to follow reports from Support requests: from your profile tap Menu, tap Help below More info and support, tap Reports and violations, then Reports. Not every report appears there. From the same screen you can see the decision and request a review, though Instagram says some types of content can't be reviewed. If you get a unique reporting number, the points-of-support page says to save it in case you need to contact Instagram about the report.

## Who do advertisers and businesses contact?

Meta's phone support page says advertisers can contact Meta through Meta Business Support Home, and the points-of-support page points to the Meta Business Help Center for advertising on Instagram. Businesses that complete Meta Verified for businesses get their own support with email and chat. If your question is about how your ads appear or what competitors run, our guide to the [Meta Ads Library](/blog/meta-ads-library) covers Meta's public ad search.

Account problems for a business profile still go through the same recovery and review flows as anyone else. Instagram's [professional account page](https://help.instagram.com/138925576505882) recommends connecting a business Facebook Page to get the most from Instagram's business tools. If your Facebook Page has its own posting problems, see [why you can't post on Facebook](/blog/why-cant-i-post-on-facebook).

## Are there country-specific ways to contact Instagram?

A few, required by local law:

- European Union: Meta's phone support page says people in the EU can use a form that routes them to support for their issue, sometimes with a unique reporting number. The points-of-support page also lists a contact form for appealing a decision under Article 20(1) of the Digital Services Act as a representative under Article 86, and a postal address for Meta Platforms Ireland Limited in Dublin.
- India: Instagram publishes a page for contacting its Grievance Officer under India's Information Technology Act, 2000, with a form and a postal address in Gurgaon. The page itself says the quickest way to address a concern is still the Help Center and the report links, and that the Grievance Officer's email is only for questions about the grievance process.
- Elsewhere: Instagram's help pages mention local representatives in some other countries, such as Turkey. Search the Help Center for your country if you need a legal point of contact.

These are legal channels, not faster support lines. Use them for what they're built for.

## How do I spot fake Instagram support accounts and recovery scams?

Scammers know people go looking for Instagram support when they're locked out and anxious, and they pose as exactly that. Instagram's pages give clear tests.

### Instagram doesn't contact you about your account in DMs

Instagram's [scam page](https://help.instagram.com/514187739359208) says Instagram will never send you direct messages about your account in the Instagram app, and its recent-emails page says Instagram will never reach out about profile security through Direct Messaging. Any DM from an account calling itself Instagram Support, Meta Security or a copyright team is fake, however official the profile looks.

### Check an email inside Instagram before you trust it

Instagram lets you see the official emails it sent in the last 14 days. The recent-emails page gives this path in the app:

Instagram app: Profile › Menu › Meta Account › Login and security › Recent emails

*Security and login emails appear under Security; everything else under Other.*

If an email in your inbox about your account isn't in that list, treat it as phishing, don't click its links and forward it to phish@instagram.com.

### Red flags Instagram lists

**Signs a support message is a scam**
- [ ] It arrives as a DM claiming to be Instagram
- [ ] It threatens to ban or delete your account unless you act now
- [ ] It asks for your password, a login code or card details
- [ ] It offers verification or account recovery for a fee
- [ ] It asks you to move the conversation off Instagram
- [ ] It gives a phone number for Meta or Instagram support
- [ ] The sender isn't an official Meta or Instagram address

*Each sign comes from Instagram's scam, phishing and phone support pages.*

A common bait is an app or site promising to show who unfollowed you or to add followers, in exchange for your login. Instagram's [page on apps that offer likes and followers](https://help.instagram.com/263751177667145) says such apps can get complete access to your account. Our guide to [who doesn't follow you back](/blog/who-doesnt-follow-you-back-on-instagram) shows how to check by hand without sharing a password.

Those signs come from Instagram's scam and phishing pages, which warn about people claiming to be from Instagram security asking for account information or offering verification services, messages threatening to delete or ban your account, and requests to move the conversation off Instagram, and from Meta's warning that support phone numbers are potentially scams. Instagram's Terms of Use also forbid soliciting or collecting other users' login credentials, so anyone asking for yours is breaking the rules, not enforcing them.

### If you already fell for one

Instagram's phishing page says that if you entered your username or password on a strange link, someone else may be able to log in. If you still can, reset your password and log out of devices you don't own. If you can't, use the recovery steps above. Then turn on two-factor authentication.

## What should I include when I contact Instagram?

Whatever channel you use, the person or system on the other end knows nothing about your situation. These details speed things up, based on what Instagram's pages ask for:

- Your username, and the email or phone number on the account.
- The device and app you were using. Instagram's bug report page asks for the kind of phone or tablet.
- What you were doing when it happened, step by step.
- A screenshot or screen recording of the error or notice.
- Any reporting number or case ID you were given.
- For recovery, the type of device you used when you signed up, which Instagram may ask for.

Keep everything in one place: the date you submitted, what you sent and any reference number. If Instagram emails you, reply in that thread. If you're a Meta Verified subscriber, answer within seven days so the case doesn't close.

### How long does Instagram take to reply?

For most channels, Instagram doesn't publish a reply time. The exceptions are narrow: a review of removed content may take up to 90 days and may be closed without a review, an Oversight Board appeal must be filed within 15 days, and Meta Verified cases close if you don't answer an agent within seven days. Bug reports and AI assistant chats don't come with a promised human follow-up at all. If you've heard nothing, check Support requests and Account Status before submitting the same thing again.

## What to do next

Most Instagram problems are easier to prevent than to fix through support, because support is mostly self-serve. A few steps now save a lot of searching later:

- Turn on two-factor authentication and keep your email and phone number current in settings.
- Link your Instagram account to Facebook in Accounts Center if you have one. Instagram's lost-email page says that if you can't access your registered email and never linked Instagram and Facebook, it can't give you access to the account.
- Never give your password to an app or a person. Use official sign-in screens only.
- Check Account Status after any warning so you can appeal while the account still works.
- Export a copy of your information now and then, so a lost account doesn't mean lost photos.
- Keep your username safe. Our guide on [checking if an Instagram username is available](/blog/how-to-check-if-an-instagram-username-is-available) explains what happens to a handle when an account is deleted.

If you use a scheduling tool and a post doesn't go out, contact that tool's support first: Instagram can't see inside other apps. [PostMesh](/platform/instagram), for example, never asks for your Instagram password; you connect on Instagram's own login screen, and posts go out through Instagram's API. Our [Instagram scheduling guide](/blog/how-to-schedule-instagram-posts) compares that with Instagram's own scheduler and Meta Business Suite, and the [post checker](/tools/post-checker) catches caption and file problems before you publish.

Once your account is back to normal, it's worth setting a baseline so you notice problems early. Our guide to [turning on Instagram Insights](/blog/how-to-turn-on-instagram-insights) explains what each metric means, and if you manage other networks too, [recovering a YouTube account](/blog/how-to-recover-a-youtube-account) covers Google's equivalent process.

## Questions

### Is there an Instagram customer service phone number?

No. Meta says it has no general public phone number for customer service and that numbers claiming to be Meta support are potentially scams. Some Meta Verified plans include a call-back from an agent.

### Can I email Instagram support?

There's no general support inbox. You can reply to an email Instagram sends you about a report, forward phishing to phish@instagram.com, and Meta Verified subscribers get 24/7 email support.

### Can I talk to a real person at Instagram?

Human agents are part of Meta Verified's enhanced support, through chat and email on all plans. The free channels are self-serve tools, the AI assistant and review forms.

### Is the Meta AI support assistant a real person?

No. It's an AI chat assistant that Instagram says can make mistakes. It can guide you through steps and check your account status.

### Will Instagram ever DM me about my account?

No. Instagram says it will never send direct messages about your account, so any DM claiming to be Instagram support is a scam.

### How do I know an email is really from Instagram?

Open Recent emails in your Meta Account settings and check it's listed there. Instagram shows official emails from the last 14 days.

### Where do I appeal a disabled account?

Log in to the account and follow the on-screen instructions. Instagram doesn't list an email, phone number or general form for disabled-account appeals.

### Can Meta Verified support restore a disabled account?

Meta's page says it helps with access, security and subscription issues and prioritizes subscribers. It doesn't say it can override an enforcement decision.

### What if I can't access the email on my Instagram account?

Use Forgot password? then Try another way to submit a support request. If you also never linked a Facebook account, Instagram says it can't give you access.

### How do I report a bug on Instagram?

Shake your phone and tap Report a problem, or go to Menu, then Help, then Report a problem. Update the app first.
