By PostMesh team. Published 2026-10-26; updated 2026-10-31.

Click Start a post, write it, click the clock icon in the lower right, choose a date and time between 10 minutes and 3 months ahead, then click Next and Schedule. In the app, tap Post, then the clock icon in the upper right. Page admins schedule from the Page's admin view, at least 1 hour ahead.

LinkedIn has a scheduler built into the post composer, on desktop and in the mobile app, for your own profile and for LinkedIn Pages you manage. This guide takes every step from LinkedIn's Help Center: scheduling, finding and changing scheduled posts, the Page rules, and the limits that trip people up. Then it covers how scheduling tools post to LinkedIn, what PostMesh can and can't do there, and how to fix a scheduled post that didn't go out.

## The short answer

For your own profile, LinkedIn's clock icon is all most people need: it reaches 3 months ahead and lets you edit, reschedule or delete a post until it goes out. For a Company Page, use the same scheduler from the Page's admin view, as a super admin or content admin. A third-party tool helps when the same update also goes to X, Threads, Facebook or other networks, so you write it once.

**Where should your LinkedIn post be scheduled?**
- Your own profile, LinkedIn only → LinkedIn's clock icon in Start a post: 10 minutes to 3 months ahead.
- A Company Page you admin → The Page's admin view, Page posts, then the scheduling icon: 1 hour to 3 months ahead.
- A poll, event, job or multi-photo post on a Page → Post it by hand. LinkedIn doesn't let these Page posts be scheduled.
- Your profile plus other networks → A scheduler such as PostMesh, which posts to personal profiles up to 30 days ahead.

## How do I schedule a LinkedIn post on desktop?

LinkedIn's [Schedule posts](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1347212) page gives these steps for your own profile on a computer:

1. **Start a post**: Click Start a post at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
2. **Write it**: Type your post and add any media, the same as a post you'd share now.
3. **Click the clock icon**: It's in the lower right corner of the post window.
4. **Choose a date and time**: Pick from the dropdowns, which move in 30-minute steps, or type an exact time.
5. **Click Next**: You return to the post with the scheduled time shown.
6. **Click Schedule**: The post waits until that time and then publishes on its own.

LinkedIn on desktop: Start a post › Clock icon › Date and time › Next › Schedule

*The clock icon sits in the lower right of the post window.*

### Can I pick an exact time, like 8:05?

Yes. LinkedIn says you can choose one of the 30-minute increments in the dropdown or type a specific time. That's handy when a post should go out at a precise moment, such as just after a talk or a launch ends.

### Who will see the scheduled post?

Set the audience before you schedule, the same as any post. LinkedIn's [Post and share updates](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a528176) page lists three audiences: Anyone, Connections only, or a Group. You can also let anyone comment, limit comments to connections, or turn comments off. A post can hold up to 3,000 characters; for anything longer, LinkedIn suggests writing an article instead. If you want help fitting a post to that limit, the [LinkedIn character counter](/tools/linkedin-character-counter) counts as you type. The same page mentions a Brand Partnership toggle for labeling sponsored posts and the option to block specific members or Pages from commenting; set both before you schedule, since they travel with the post.

## How do I schedule a LinkedIn post in the app?

The LinkedIn app on iPhone and Android works the same way, with the clock icon at the top instead of the bottom:

1. **Tap Post**: It's in the navigation bar.
2. **Write it**: Type your post and add any media.
3. **Tap the clock icon**: It's in the upper right corner.
4. **Choose a date and time**: Then tap Next.
5. **Tap Schedule**: The post is saved with its time and publishes on its own.

1. Tap Post in the navigation bar
2. Write the post and add media
3. Tap the clock icon in the upper right
4. Choose a date and time, then tap Next
5. Tap Schedule

*The same steps on iPhone and Android, from LinkedIn Help.*

### iPhone and Android differences

The scheduling steps are the same on both, but video uploads behave differently. LinkedIn's video troubleshooting page says that on iPhone you should keep the app open until processing starts, because an upload can stall in the background, and that videos stored in iCloud can't be uploaded from the app until you move them to the phone's own storage. On Android, uploads carry on in the background. On either, LinkedIn suggests keeping text and logos away from the edges of a video so its interface doesn't cover them.

## How do I see, edit or delete scheduled LinkedIn posts?

A badge next to the clock icon shows how many posts you have scheduled. To open the list on desktop, click the clock icon in the post window, then View all scheduled posts in the lower left. In the app, tap the clock icon, then View all. From there:

| You want to | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Change the text or media | Click or tap the More icon in the upper right of the post, then Edit post. |
| Move it to another time | More icon, then Modify schedule, then pick the new date and time. |
| Post it right away | Click or tap Edit next to the scheduled time, choose Clear time, then post it. |
| Throw it away | Click or tap the Delete icon next to the post and confirm. Or Clear time and discard it. |

LinkedIn's help doesn't say whether it notifies you when a scheduled post goes live. Check your profile's activity after the time to confirm it's there, especially the first few times you use the scheduler.

## How do I schedule a post on a LinkedIn Page?

LinkedIn's [Page scheduling](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a1419179) page says super admins and content admins of a Page can schedule posts, from 1 hour after the current time up to 3 months ahead. You schedule from the Page's admin view, not from your own feed.

### On desktop

1. **Open the admin view**: Go to your Page's super admin or content admin view and click Page posts in the left menu.
2. **Start a post**: Click Start a post to open a preview.
3. **Open the scheduler**: Click the scheduling icon in the lower right to open the Schedule post dialog.
4. **Pick the time**: Choose a date and time at least an hour away, then click Next to return to the preview.
5. **Finish and schedule**: Complete the post and click Schedule. It publishes automatically at that time.

### In the app

Open the Page's admin view, tap Dashboard in the upper left and select Page posts. Tap Post in the upper right to open a preview, tap the scheduling icon in the upper right, choose a date and time, tap Next, finish the post and tap Schedule in the upper right.

### What can't be scheduled on a Page?

LinkedIn lists six kinds of Page post that can't be scheduled: events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs and service posts. If a Page post needs one of these, keep it ready and post it by hand at the time you planned. LinkedIn also says a scheduled Page post can't be promoted through Browse existing content in Campaign Manager until it has been published.

### Edit, reschedule or delete a scheduled Page post

All three start the same way: open the admin view, click Page posts, click Start a post, click the scheduling icon, then View all scheduled posts (View all in the app). Then click the More icon on the post:

- Edit post lets you change the post's contents, its visibility, who can comment and, where needed, the brand partnership label. Click Schedule to save.
- Modify schedule lets you pick a new date and time. Click Next, then Schedule.
- Delete post, then Delete, removes it for good. LinkedIn says deletion is permanent and only possible before the post publishes.

## Can I schedule videos, documents and polls on LinkedIn?

On your own profile, LinkedIn's scheduling page names only two kinds of post that can't be scheduled: events and jobs. On a Page the list is longer. Here's how each common format fits, using LinkedIn's own pages.

| Format | Your profile | A Page | Good to know |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Text | Yes | Yes | Up to 3,000 characters. |
| One photo | Yes | Yes | GIF, JPEG, PNG or WebP. |
| Several photos | Not excluded | No | Page posts with multiple photos can't be scheduled. |
| Video | Not excluded | Not excluded | 75 KB to 5 GB, up to 15 minutes. |
| Document | Not excluded | Not excluded | PDF, Word or PowerPoint, up to 100 MB and 300 pages. |
| Poll | Not excluded | No | Post Page polls by hand. |
| Event or job | No | No | Both are excluded everywhere. |
| Reshare or service post | Not listed | No | Page reshares and service posts go by hand. |

Not excluded means LinkedIn's scheduling page doesn't list that format as one you can't schedule. If the clock icon disappears when you add something, that's LinkedIn telling you the format can't be scheduled in that place, so post it by hand at the time you planned.

### Do scheduled posts get less reach?

LinkedIn's scheduling pages say nothing about scheduled posts being shown differently from posts shared by hand. What you control is the time, the audience setting and the post itself. LinkedIn's Page help frames scheduling as a way to post at a regular cadence, which is the main thing scheduling gives you.

## What are the limits of LinkedIn's scheduler?

| Question | Answer from LinkedIn Help |
| --- | --- |
| How far ahead? | Profile: 10 minutes to 3 months. Page: 1 hour to 3 months. |
| Which posts can't be scheduled? | Profile: events and jobs. Page: events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs and service posts. |
| Can I edit a scheduled post? | Yes, with Edit post. You can also change the time, post it now or delete it. |
| Which time zone? | Profile posts are converted to UTC using your device's time zone. Page posts use your location. |
| How many can I schedule? | LinkedIn's scheduling pages don't give a maximum. |
| What if it fails? | LinkedIn's scheduling pages don't describe failures or notifications. |

### How time zones work

LinkedIn converts the time you pick to UTC based on the time zone set on your device. That matters when your computer and your audience are in different places. If your laptop is still on New York time while you're in Berlin, a post set for 9:00 goes out at 9:00 New York time. Check your device's time zone before you schedule, and convert from your audience's local time if they're elsewhere. Watch the weeks when clocks change, too: the US and Europe switch daylight saving time on different dates, so the gap between you and your audience can shift by an hour.

### Drafts aren't scheduled posts

LinkedIn lets you save a post as a draft and finish it later, including from another device. A draft has no time, so it never posts on its own. If you've written something for a particular morning, schedule it rather than leaving it in drafts.

### Media limits

LinkedIn's [video troubleshooting](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a548372) page sets videos at 75 KB to 5 GB and up to 15 minutes, with a minimum of 3 seconds on desktop and 2 in the app, an aspect ratio between 1:2.4 and 2.4:1, and 10 to 60 frames per second. Its [supported file types](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a564109) page lists GIF, JPEG, PNG and WebP images, and PDF, Word and PowerPoint documents up to 100 MB and 300 pages. For image shapes, see the [LinkedIn post size guide](/blog/linkedin-post-size).

## How do third-party LinkedIn schedulers work?

A scheduling tool keeps your post and publishes it through LinkedIn's API when the time comes. LinkedIn's sharing docs create every post as published right away, so the tool does the waiting and sends the post at the time you picked. What a tool can post depends on which LinkedIn API products it has.

### Personal profiles: Share on LinkedIn

LinkedIn's [Share on LinkedIn](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/consumer/integrations/self-serve/share-on-linkedin) documentation describes posting on a member's behalf with the w_member_social permission, granted when you sign in and approve the app. It supports text, links, images and video, and two audiences: public, or first-degree connections only. It also sets a daily limit of 150 requests per member.

### How many posts can a tool send?

The 150-request daily limit counts API calls, not posts. LinkedIn's guide shows that an image or video post takes three steps: register the upload, upload the file, then create the post. So a tool can send plenty of posts for one person in a day, but a burst of media-heavy posts uses the allowance faster than text posts do.

### Company Pages: a separate, vetted product

Posting to a Company Page goes through a different product. LinkedIn's [Community Management API](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linkedin/marketing/community-management/community-management-overview) overview describes it as the way developers manage company pages, and lists it as a vetted product with a Development tier and a Standard tier that needs a screencast for each use case. That's why some tools post only to profiles, some only to Pages, and some to both.

### Why some tools can't show LinkedIn analytics

The same overview says the r_member_social permission, part of LinkedIn's member post management program, is closed to new requests. Without it, a tool can post to your profile but can't read back how the post did. Check a tool's LinkedIn page for analytics before you assume you'll get them, and look at your post's numbers in LinkedIn itself.

Comparing tools? [The best free social media schedulers](/blog/best-free-social-media-schedulers) lists options, and [scheduler or management platform](/blog/social-media-scheduler-vs-management-platform) explains which kind you actually need.

### What to check before you connect a tool

- Profile, Page or both. Many tools post to one and not the other, because Pages need LinkedIn's separate Community Management API.
- The audience. LinkedIn's sharing API allows public posts or posts for first-degree connections only; some tools offer just one.
- Media limits. A tool's video limit can be far below the 5 GB LinkedIn accepts in its own app.
- Formats. Documents, polls and articles are often missing.
- Sign-in. You should approve the tool on LinkedIn's own screen, never type your LinkedIn password into the tool's site.
- Results. A tool should tell you whether each post went out, since LinkedIn won't.

## How do I schedule LinkedIn posts with PostMesh?

[PostMesh](/platform/linkedin) publishes text, image and video posts to your personal LinkedIn profile through LinkedIn's official API, right away or at a time you pick up to 30 days ahead. It's built for the update that also goes to X, Threads, Facebook or Instagram: you write one caption and give LinkedIn its own version if it needs one.

> PostMesh can't post to LinkedIn Company Pages yet. Its LinkedIn page lists Company Pages as not supported. For a Page, use LinkedIn's own scheduler from the Page's admin view, covered above.

1. **Connect LinkedIn**: Sign in with LinkedIn and approve PostMesh. PostMesh never sees your password, your messages or your connections.
2. **Open New post**: Pick your LinkedIn profile, plus any other networks.
3. **Write the post**: Up to 3,000 characters. Posts from PostMesh are public.
4. **Add media if you want it**: One image (JPEG, PNG or GIF up to 20 MB) or one video (MP4, MOV or WebM, 3 seconds to 30 minutes, up to 200 MB), or keep it text only.
5. **Schedule**: Under When, choose Later and pick a time up to 30 days ahead.
6. **Check the result**: Posts shows whether LinkedIn accepted it. If it failed, Retry sends again only to the accounts that failed.

- While you write: PostMesh checks the 3,000-character limit and the file type and size for LinkedIn and every other network you picked
- When you schedule: The post is held in PostMesh's queue, up to 30 days ahead
- Every minute: PostMesh checks the queue for posts that are due
- At the time you picked: PostMesh publishes it to your profile through LinkedIn's API, within a minute
- Afterward: Posts shows the result, with Retry if it failed

### What can PostMesh post to LinkedIn?

| Content | PostMesh | Details |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Text | Yes | Up to 3,000 characters. Posts are public. |
| One image | Yes | JPEG, PNG or GIF up to 20 MB. |
| One video | Yes | MP4, MOV or WebM, 3 seconds to 30 minutes, up to 200 MB. |
| Company Pages | Not yet | Personal profiles only. |
| Documents and carousels | Not yet | Post these in LinkedIn. |
| Articles and polls | Not yet | Post these in LinkedIn. |
| Analytics | None yet | PostMesh doesn't have LinkedIn's permission to read post metrics. |

Note the video limit: PostMesh's LinkedIn uploads stop at 200 MB, well under the 5 GB LinkedIn accepts in its own app, though PostMesh allows up to 30 minutes. For a large file, compress it or upload it in LinkedIn directly.

### Changing a scheduled post in PostMesh

To change a post you've scheduled, cancel it in Posts or Calendar and schedule the new version. A post that has already started sending can't be cancelled. If you're not ready to schedule, save it as a draft: Creator keeps up to 200 drafts, Growth 1,000 and Pro an unlimited number.

### What PostMesh can see on LinkedIn

When you connect, PostMesh sees your name, profile photo and email. It never sees your password, your messages or your connections, and you can disconnect LinkedIn from PostMesh any time.

PostMesh has no free plan. Creator is $29 a month with 10 connected accounts, Growth is $49 with 50, and Pro is $99 with unlimited accounts, all with unlimited publishing. Yearly billing brings those to $22, $37 and $75 a month, and every plan starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. See [pricing](/pricing).

## LinkedIn's scheduler, PostMesh or posting by hand?

Posting by hand means writing the post and publishing it yourself at the moment you choose. It's free and supports everything, but you have to be at your desk or phone at that minute.

| | LinkedIn's scheduler | PostMesh | By hand |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cost | Free | From $29 a month after a 7-day trial | Free |
| How far ahead | 10 minutes to 3 months (Pages from 1 hour) | Up to 30 days | Not applicable |
| Company Pages | Yes, for super and content admins | No | Yes |
| Polls, events, documents | Profile: only events and jobs excluded. Page: polls and events excluded. | No | Yes |
| Audience choice | Anyone, Connections only or Group | Public only | Any |
| Video size | Up to 5 GB | Up to 200 MB | Up to 5 GB |
| Other networks in the same step | No | 7 other networks | No |
| Change it before it goes out | Edit, reschedule or delete | Cancel and reschedule | Not applicable |

**LinkedIn's scheduler**
- Profiles and Pages, up to 3 months ahead
- Edit, reschedule or post now from the list
- No Page polls, events or multi-photo posts
- LinkedIn only

**PostMesh**
- Personal profile only, public posts
- Text, one image or one video, 30 days ahead
- Checked against every network's limits
- LinkedIn plus 7 other networks

**By hand**
- Every post type and audience
- Free
- You must be there at the time
- Easy to skip on a busy day

*Facts from LinkedIn Help and PostMesh's LinkedIn page.*

If LinkedIn is your main network, its scheduler goes further ahead than PostMesh and handles Pages, so use it. If you post the same idea on LinkedIn, X and Threads each week, a scheduler saves the copy-paste and shows you which version needs trimming: LinkedIn's 3,000 characters next to X's 280 and Threads' 500. Teams that need Company Pages from a third-party tool should look at tools that support them; our [Buffer comparison](/compare/buffer-alternative) notes that Buffer posts to LinkedIn pages.

## Why didn't my scheduled LinkedIn post go out?

LinkedIn's help doesn't describe scheduling failures, so start with the settings you control.

| What you see | Likely reason | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| It posted at the wrong hour | Your device was set to another time zone | Fix the device's time zone and use Modify schedule |
| A time can't be picked | Under 10 minutes away (1 hour for Pages) or over 3 months | Pick a time inside the window |
| No clock icon on a Page post | It's an event, poll, reshare, job, service post or multi-photo post | Post it by hand at the planned time |
| No scheduling for the Page at all | You aren't a super admin or content admin | Ask a super admin to change your role |
| It never appeared | It was saved as a draft, not scheduled | Open your scheduled posts and check it's listed with a time |
| A video won't upload | Unsupported format, too large or too short | Use MP4 or MOV within LinkedIn's limits |
| PostMesh says LinkedIn could not connect | Posting access wasn't granted | Connect again and accept posting access |

### The time zone was wrong

Because LinkedIn converts profile posts to UTC from your device's time zone, the most common cause is a laptop or phone set to the wrong zone, often after travel. Fix the device setting, open the scheduled post with the More icon and choose Modify schedule. For Page posts, LinkedIn says the time is based on your location, so double-check the time shown before you click Schedule.

### The media was rejected

In LinkedIn itself, check the video is MP4 or MOV, between 3 seconds and 15 minutes, under 5 GB and between 1:2.4 and 2.4:1. LinkedIn notes that a ProRes file may upload but fail to process. In PostMesh, a LinkedIn video must be MP4, MOV or WebM between 3 seconds and 30 minutes and under 200 MB, and an image must be JPEG, PNG or GIF under 20 MB. PostMesh checks these before you send, so a problem shows up in the composer rather than at post time.

### You can't find or change a Page's scheduled post

Only super admins and content admins can schedule, edit, reschedule or delete scheduled Page posts. If your role changed, the list may be out of reach. Ask a super admin to check your role, or to make the change for you. Remember that deleting a scheduled Page post is permanent.

### The post went out but nobody saw it

Check the audience first: a post set to Connections only or a Group won't reach the wider network. Then compare the time with when your connections are usually active. The [best time to post on LinkedIn](/blog/best-time-to-post-on-linkedin) guide summarizes what published studies found.

## What time should I schedule LinkedIn posts?

Your own audience matters more than any average. Use the [best time to post on LinkedIn](/blog/best-time-to-post-on-linkedin) guide as a starting point, then look at the numbers LinkedIn shows on your own posts after a few weeks. Remember that your device's time zone sets the clock, so schedule in your audience's local time.

Plan to be around after a post goes out so you can answer comments while the post is fresh. If you're wondering what others see when you're online, [what the LinkedIn green dot means](/blog/linkedin-green-dot-meaning) explains it.

## A worked example: one week on LinkedIn and beyond

Say you run a small design studio. You post on your own LinkedIn profile twice a week, run the studio's Company Page, and also post on X and Threads. Here's how one week splits across the tools, using only the limits above.

- Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.: a 900-character profile post about a project you finished, with one photo. It also suits Threads and X, so you schedule it from PostMesh with a 480-character version for Threads and a 260-character version for X. PostMesh flags the main caption as too long for both until you add the shorter versions.
- Wednesday, 12:00 p.m.: a Page post announcing a new hire, with three photos. LinkedIn doesn't schedule multi-photo Page posts, so you either cut it to one photo and schedule it from the Page's admin view, or set a reminder and post it by hand.
- Thursday, 8:05 a.m.: a 2,400-character profile post walking through your process, with a PDF case study. You schedule it in LinkedIn itself, because documents aren't something PostMesh posts, and type 8:05 rather than picking a 30-minute slot.
- Friday: a poll on the Page asking clients which service they want next. Page polls can't be scheduled, so it goes out by hand.

Four posts, three ways of sending them, and nothing posted in a format the tool can't handle. Before you start, check every caption against each network's limit with the [post checker](/tools/post-checker), and pick a few relevant tags with the [LinkedIn hashtag generator](/tools/linkedin-hashtag-generator).

## How do I plan a month of LinkedIn posts?

LinkedIn's 3-month window is long enough to plan a whole quarter in one sitting. A simple routine:

1. **Choose the rhythm**: Pick the days and times you'll post, for example Tuesday and Thursday mornings in your audience's time zone.
2. **Draft the posts together**: Write a month's worth in one session so they read as a set and don't repeat. The [LinkedIn post generator](/tools/linkedin-post-generator) can help with first drafts, and the [text formatter](/tools/linkedin-text-formatter) adds bold or italic styling.
3. **Prepare the media**: Crop images to the shapes in the LinkedIn post size guide, and keep videos within LinkedIn's limits.
4. **Sort the exceptions**: Page polls, events and multi-photo posts go by hand. Profile posts that also go to other networks can go through a scheduler.
5. **Schedule and review**: Schedule each post, then open View all scheduled posts and read the month top to bottom.
6. **Keep time for replies**: Block 15 minutes after each post for comments.

**Before you click Schedule on LinkedIn**
- [ ] The post is 3,000 characters or fewer
- [ ] The audience is right: Anyone, Connections only or a Group
- [ ] Your device is set to the right time zone
- [ ] The time is at least 10 minutes away (1 hour for a Page) and within 3 months
- [ ] A Page post isn't a poll, event, job, reshare, service post or multi-photo post
- [ ] Videos are MP4 or MOV, 3 seconds to 15 minutes, under 5 GB

*Each item matches a limit on a LinkedIn Help page.*

If your LinkedIn posts also go elsewhere, [how to post on all social media at once](/blog/how-to-cross-post-to-multiple-platforms) covers adapting one post for each network, and the [social media character limits](/blog/social-media-character-limits) table shows each network's length next to LinkedIn's. To see how other networks schedule, read the guides to [scheduling tweets](/blog/how-to-schedule-tweets) and [scheduling Instagram posts](/blog/how-to-schedule-instagram-posts). And paste any caption into the [post checker](/tools/post-checker) to see which networks it fits.
