Go to tiktok.com in a web browser. TikTok's web app has a For You feed, an Explore tab, full-screen LIVEs and a floating player in desktop Chrome, and TikTok's Terms say you can use it without an account, though some features need one. Public videos can be watched by anyone, on or off TikTok.

TikTok is built around its phone app, but you don't need the app to watch it. TikTok runs a full web version at tiktok.com, lets websites embed TikTok videos, and makes public videos viewable to people without an account. This guide covers what TikTok itself says about each of those, which videos you won't be able to see from a browser, and what to know about privacy when you watch on the web.

## The short answer

Open a browser on your computer and go to tiktok.com. That's the TikTok web app. TikTok's [US Terms of Service](https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/us/terms-of-service/en), last updated July 15, 2026, say they cover TikTok's apps and websites, that the Terms still apply if you use TikTok without an account, and that you need an account for full functionality.

**tiktok.com in a browser**
- No install needed
- For You feed and Explore tab
- Full-screen LIVEs on desktop
- Floating player in desktop Chrome

**Embedded TikToks**
- Videos placed on other websites
- Play right on that page
- Buttons link back to tiktok.com
- Gone if TikTok removes the video

**The TikTok app**
- Needed to post from your phone
- Needed to cast to a TV
- Save video on posts that allow it
- TikTok Lite for Android uses less data

*The website covers most watching. The app is still needed for a few things.*

| You want to | Without the app? | How |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Scroll TikTok on a computer | Yes | Open tiktok.com in a browser |
| Watch a video someone sent you | Yes, if it's public | Open the link in a browser |
| Watch TikTok LIVEs | Yes | The web app shows LIVEs, full screen on desktop for horizontal streams |
| Keep TikTok playing while you work | Yes, in desktop Chrome | Use the floating player |
| Put a TikTok on your website | Yes | Copy the embed code from the video's page on a computer |
| Watch on a TV | No | Cast from the TikTok app on your phone |

## Can you watch TikTok in a web browser?

Yes. In a February 27, 2025 newsroom post, [New Features Bring TikTok's Handheld Magic to Desktop](https://newsroom.tiktok.com/new-features-bring-tiktok-magic-to-desktop?lang=en), TikTok described TikTok as a mobile-first platform but said there are times when watching on a desktop is more convenient. It announced updates to the TikTok.com web app to bring popular in-app features to the browser, and said they were available globally.

TikTok's privacy policy and Terms both treat the website as part of TikTok. The [US Privacy Policy](https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/us/privacy-policy/en), last updated July 15, 2026, says it applies to TikTok apps, websites, software and related services on any platform or device. So watching on the website isn't a workaround. It's one of TikTok's own products.

## What can you do on the TikTok website?

TikTok's February 2025 post lists what the redesigned web app includes:

| Feature | What TikTok says it does |
| --- | --- |
| Modular layout | A redesigned layout that moves the main menu and cuts distractions, for a more immersive view |
| For You feed | A refreshed version of the personalized feed from the app |
| Explore tab | A new tab for discovering content |
| Full-screen LIVEs | Creators can go LIVE vertically or horizontally, and desktop viewers get a full-screen horizontal view |
| Floating player | A window that stays on top of other windows, desktop Chrome only |
| Collections | Organize favorite videos into custom categories |

### What is the TikTok floating player?

It's a small TikTok window that stays above your other windows, so you can keep a video or LIVE playing while you work in another app. TikTok calls it web-exclusive and says it's available only on desktop through Google Chrome. If you use another browser, you won't have it.

### Watching LIVE on a computer

TikTok's post says creators can go LIVE in portrait or horizontal mode. When they stream horizontally, desktop viewers see a full-screen horizontal view, while phone viewers rotate their device. Gaming streams are the obvious use, and TikTok's post highlights LIVE gaming in particular.

Age rules apply to LIVE on the web as in the app. TikTok's Community Guidelines say you must be 18 or older to go LIVE or send Gifts, and TikTok's [recommendations help page](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/exploring-videos/how-tiktok-recommends-content) says people under 18 are restricted from watching certain LIVE videos.

### Collections

TikTok's post also introduced Collections on the web, for organizing favorite videos into your own categories so they're easier to find again. If you save a lot of recipes, tutorials or workouts, this is the web version of a bookmarks folder.

### Creator tools in a browser

The website isn't only for watching. TikTok's [Help Center page on TikTok Studio](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/creating-videos/tiktok-studio) says TikTok Studio, its app for managing content and seeing performance, is also available with limited tools in a web browser, for people 18 and older. TikTok's account types page says Business Accounts can reach their Business Suite, including analytics, from a web browser. And TikTok's Series page says creators can sign up for Series, its paid content program, at tiktok.com/series. If you're a creator who'd rather work from a computer, a fair amount is possible without the phone app.

## Do you need an account to watch TikTok?

Not to watch public videos. TikTok's Terms of Service say that if you use the Platform without an account, the Terms still apply to you, and that to get full functionality you must create an account. TikTok's Help Center page on [public and private accounts](https://support.tiktok.com/en/account-and-privacy/account-privacy-settings/making-your-account-public-or-private) is more specific about what people without an account can see: posts from a public account may be visible to, and shared by, anyone on or off TikTok, whether or not they have a TikTok account.

| Whose video | Can you watch it without an account? |
| --- | --- |
| A public account, post set to Everyone | Yes. TikTok says these can be seen by anyone, on or off TikTok. |
| A private account | No. Only followers the creator approves can watch. |
| A post set to Friends | No. Only followers the creator follows back. |
| A post set to Only you | No. Only the creator. |
| A removed post | No. Removed content isn't available anywhere. |

TikTok doesn't publish a list of which web features need an account on any page we were able to open, so we haven't listed them here. What its Terms make clear is the general rule: watching is possible without one, and the full set of features needs an account.

### What a private account hides

TikTok's Help Center says a private account owner approves who can follow them and who can watch their videos, LIVE videos, bio and likes, and see their follower and following lists. Nobody can Duet, Stitch, make stickers from or download their posts, or add them to their own Stories. So if a creator you like is private, the only way to watch is to have an account and send a follow request they accept.

> Even private accounts aren't fully hidden. TikTok's Help Center says a user's name, username and profile photo are always visible to anyone on or off TikTok, and other people can search for the account.

## How do I watch TikTok on a computer?

1. **Open a browser**: Open a web browser on your computer. Use Google Chrome if you want the floating player.
2. **Go to tiktok.com**: Type tiktok.com into the address bar. This opens the TikTok web app.
3. **Browse**: Scroll the For You feed, or open the Explore tab to discover more.
4. **Open a LIVE full screen**: For horizontal streams, the web app shows a full-screen view on desktop.
5. **Sign in if you want more**: TikTok's Terms say full functionality needs an account. Signing in is optional for watching public videos.

1. Open a desktop browser
2. Go to tiktok.com
3. Scroll For You or open Explore
4. Sign in only if you need more features

*No download, no install. Chrome adds the floating player.*

### Opening a TikTok link someone sent you

TikTok video links open on tiktok.com. TikTok's developer documentation shows what a video address looks like: tiktok.com, then the creator's @username, then /video/ and a long number. If the video is public, the link plays in your browser. If it doesn't, the next section covers why.

### Finding TikToks through a search engine

Public TikTok content can also turn up in ordinary web searches. TikTok's Terms mention enabling third-party search engines to surface public TikTok content, and its Help Center says public posts may appear in search engines, blogs, social media posts and news sites. If you remember a creator's name or what a video was about, searching for that plus the word TikTok in your usual search engine is often the quickest way back to it, no app needed.

### Sharing a TikTok from your computer

On a video's page on tiktok.com, TikTok's developer documentation describes a Share button, shown as a right-facing arrow, which includes the Embed option covered below. The simplest way to share is to copy the video's address from your browser and send it. Whoever opens it can watch in their own browser, as long as the video is public.

## Why can't I see a TikTok in my browser?

If a link doesn't play, it's almost always because of who the creator allowed to see it, or because the video is gone. TikTok's [post visibility page](https://support.tiktok.com/en/account-and-privacy/account-privacy-settings/video-visibility) explains the settings creators choose for every post.

**Why won't this TikTok play for you?**
- The account is private → Only approved followers can watch. You'd need an account and an approved follow request.
- The post is set to Friends or Only you → Only followers the creator follows back, or only the creator, can see it.
- The video was removed → TikTok removes content that breaks its rules. It's gone everywhere, including embeds.
- It's marked for adults only → TikTok makes some content viewable only to adults, so it may not show.

*Most of these are the creator's choice, not a problem with your browser.*

On the Friends setting: TikTok defines Friends as followers the creator follows back. A post set to Friends is meant for mutual follows only, so it won't play for anyone else, signed in or not.

On the last point, TikTok's [Community Guidelines](https://www.tiktok.com/community-guidelines/en/fyf-standards) say that some content may not be appropriate for people under 18, and that TikTok makes content under its age-restricted standards viewable only to adults. TikTok's post visibility page adds that creators can tag posts as audience-controlled, which makes them inaccessible to people under 18.

If you're a creator wondering why your own videos aren't reaching people, that's a different question. Our guide to [why your TikTok isn't getting views](/blog/why-is-my-tiktok-not-getting-views) covers For You eligibility and the settings that limit reach.

## Can I watch TikTok on my phone without the app?

TikTok's announcement of the web app focuses on desktop, and we didn't find a TikTok page describing the mobile browser experience in detail. What TikTok's developer documentation does say is that the "Discover more on TikTok" button on embedded videos sends desktop users to TikTok's Trending page, but sends phone users to TikTok's page in the App Store or Google Play. In other words, on a phone, TikTok points you toward the app.

### If storage or data is the reason

If you're avoiding the app because of space or data, TikTok makes a lighter version. TikTok's [Help Center page on TikTok Lite](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/exploring-videos/tiktok-lite-app) says it gives a similar experience with limited features, uses less data and storage, and lets you watch, follow, interact and post. It's only available on Android, from Google Play, and it uses the same TikTok account.

TikTok says your TikTok account links to TikTok Lite, so you stay signed in and can switch between the two apps. Your username, the accounts you follow and your settings carry over, and any safety features you set up in the main app apply in Lite automatically. If you don't have an account, you can sign up in TikTok Lite directly. On an iPhone, TikTok Lite isn't an option, so the website on a computer or the regular app are the choices.

### If you only want to post from a computer

Some people avoid the app because they'd rather post from a computer. PostMesh can post videos and photo sets to TikTok from your browser through TikTok's official Content Posting API, right away or scheduled up to 30 days ahead. See [what PostMesh supports on TikTok](/platform/tiktok) and [how to schedule TikTok videos](/blog/how-to-schedule-tiktok-videos). The same question comes up for Instagram, which our guide to [posting on Instagram from a desktop](/blog/can-you-post-on-instagram-from-desktop) answers.

## How do I watch TikTok on a TV?

TikTok's Help Center describes one way: casting from the TikTok app on your phone. So this is the one case in this guide that needs the app, just not on the TV. TikTok's [casting page](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/exploring-videos/cast-tiktok-to-a-tv) says you can cast from an Android phone running Android 6.0 or later, or an iPhone running iOS 12.0 or later, to TVs and devices that support Google Chromecast built-in.

1. **Connect to the same Wi-Fi**: Put your phone and your TV on the same network, then open the TikTok app and go to the video.
2. **Tap Share, then Cast to TV**: You may need to scroll right to find Cast to TV. On iPhone, the first time, allow access to your local network.
3. **Pick your TV**: Choose the TV from the list. If it's missing, tap Refresh.
4. **Stop when you're done**: Tap the casting banner at the bottom, then Tap to disconnect. Tap the banner to switch TVs too.

1. Phone and TV on the same Wi-Fi
2. Open the video in the TikTok app
3. Tap Share, then Cast to TV
4. Pick your TV
5. Tap the banner to disconnect

*Needs a Chromecast built-in TV or device, per TikTok's Help Center.*

## How do I put a TikTok video on a website?

With an embed. TikTok's developer page on [embedding videos](https://developers.tiktok.com/doc/embed-videos), last updated August 4, 2026, says embedded videos show the creator, the video description and the sound in TikTok's own player, and link back to the video on TikTok. Here's how TikTok says to get the code:

1. **Open the video on tiktok.com**: TikTok says you must do this in a browser on a computer, not a phone.
2. **Click Share, then Embed**: Share is the right-facing arrow icon.
3. **Copy the code**: Copy the code from the window that opens.
4. **Paste it into your page**: Paste it where you want the video. It loads automatically.

1. Open the video on tiktok.com on a computer
2. Click Share, then Embed
3. Copy the code
4. Paste it into your web page

*From TikTok for Developers. Developers can also use TikTok's oEmbed API.*

TikTok's page adds a few things worth knowing. Embedded videos have volume control and show recommended videos when they finish. Every button and piece of text links to the matching page on tiktok.com. And availability follows the app: if a video is removed from TikTok, its embedded version stops working too. For developers, TikTok offers an oEmbed API that turns a video link into embed code.

### Where embedded TikToks make sense

Embeds suit blog posts, news articles, school projects and product pages: the video stays credited to its creator, plays on your page, and links back to TikTok. If you're adding images around it, our [social media image sizes guide](/blog/social-media-image-sizes) lists the dimensions each network uses. Because an embed depends on the original video, it's worth checking embedded pages now and then, since a removed or privated video will stop playing.

## Can I download TikTok videos from the website?

TikTok's Help Center describes saving videos in the app, and only when the creator allows it. Its [sharing page](https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/exploring-videos/sharing) says you go to the post, tap Share, then Save photo or Save video, and that only posts with download permissions turned on show the option. TikTok's public and private accounts page adds that people can't download videos from private accounts.

Be careful with third-party download sites. TikTok's Terms of Service say you must not scrape, crawl, export or otherwise extract any data or content from the Platform using automated systems or software without TikTok's written approval, and must not use TikTok content or another user's content for commercial purposes unless TikTok or the user permits it. If you want to use someone's video, ask them, or share or embed it so it stays credited to them.

### If you just want to find a video again

You don't need a copy of a video to rewatch it. Saving its link, or putting it in a Collection on the web app if you're signed in, keeps it a click away and keeps it credited to the creator. The only catch is that a link or Collection depends on the original: if the creator deletes the video or makes it private, it's gone for you too.

## What is the TikTok in-app browser?

This is a different thing that also gets called the TikTok browser. The TikTok app has its own in-app browser for viewing websites without leaving TikTok. TikTok's US Privacy Policy says TikTok collects certain information about your interactions with websites when you use its in-app browser.

If you'd rather a website not be visited through TikTok, copy the link and open it in your regular browser instead. That's a choice about privacy, not a requirement.

## Is watching TikTok in a browser private?

It's covered by the same privacy policy as the app. TikTok's US Privacy Policy applies to its websites as well as its apps, and lists technical information it collects from your device and network, such as your IP address, browser user agent, time zone settings and screen resolution. A few details apply to browsers in particular:

- Cookies: TikTok says you may be able to control some of what it collects by refusing or disabling cookies in your browser settings, and that the choice applies only to the browser where you make it.
- Do Not Track: TikTok says some browsers send do-not-track signals, and that it currently doesn't act on them.
- Ads: TikTok says account holders can manage how activity elsewhere online is used for ads from the Ads section of their in-app settings.

**Watching TikTok on the web with more privacy**
- [ ] Set cookie preferences in each browser you use
- [ ] Don't rely on Do Not Track, which TikTok doesn't act on
- [ ] Open links in your own browser, not the in-app one
- [ ] Sign out on shared computers
- [ ] If you have an account, review the Ads settings

*Based on what TikTok's US Privacy Policy says about browsers and ads.*

### On a shared or work computer

If you sign in to TikTok on a computer other people use, sign out when you're done, or use your browser's private window so your session isn't saved. Because TikTok says cookie choices apply only to the browser where you make them, set them again on each computer and browser you use.

## Can kids watch TikTok without an account?

TikTok's age rules apply whether or not you have an account, because its Terms apply to anyone using the Platform. TikTok's US Terms of Service say that if you're under 13, or under 14 in Florida, you can't use the Platform unless you're using the separate Under 13 Experience, which limits the information TikTok collects and adds safety protections. The Terms also say some features may be disabled or restricted for anyone under 18.

TikTok's Community Guidelines describe the US version for younger children as a special TikTok experience with extra safety features and its own privacy policy. They also say TikTok bans accounts it finds belong to someone below the minimum age.

- 13: Minimum age to use TikTok in most of the US
- 14: Minimum age in Florida
- 18: Under this age, some features may be restricted

*Under 13s in the US can use only the separate Under 13 Experience.*

Watching logged out doesn't change those rules. TikTok's safety features, such as screen time management and Family Pairing, are set up in the TikTok app, and TikTok's Help Center says settings made there also apply in TikTok Lite. Parents who want those controls should set them up on their child's account rather than relying on logged-out viewing.

## What do people see when they visit your TikTok in a browser?

If you post on TikTok, it's worth knowing that anyone can look at a public profile from a browser without signing in. TikTok's Help Center says public accounts let anyone follow you, watch your videos and LIVEs, see your bio and likes, and see your follower and following lists. Your name, username and profile photo are visible to everyone either way.

If that's more than you want, you can make your account private. TikTok's Help Center gives this path:

TikTok: Profile › Menu ☰ › Settings and privacy › Privacy › Private account

*You can also limit single posts to Friends or Only you instead.*

Going private has trade-offs for creators: private videos can't reach new viewers, and people can't Duet, Stitch or download your posts. If you'd rather stay public, make the profile easy to read for someone landing on it from a link. The [TikTok bio generator](/tools/tiktok-bio-generator) drafts a bio, the [TikTok bio counter](/tools/tiktok-bio-character-counter) checks its length, and the [TikTok photo resizer](/tools/tiktok-photo-resizer) prepares a profile picture. If you're choosing a handle, the [TikTok username checker](/tools/tiktok-username-checker) tells you whether it's taken.

Styled letters in a name or bio show up in browsers too. The [TikTok font generator](/tools/tiktok-font-generator) makes them, and the [TikTok caption counter](/tools/tiktok-caption-character-counter) checks a caption before you post. If you share the same videos on other networks, our guide to [cross-posting to multiple platforms](/blog/how-to-cross-post-to-multiple-platforms) covers doing it from one place.

And if you're working toward earning from your views, our guide to [how much TikTok pays for 1 million views](/blog/how-much-does-tiktok-pay-for-1-million-views) explains which views count, and the [best time to post on TikTok](/blog/best-time-to-post-on-tiktok) compares the main studies on timing.
