# Different captions for each social network

> Write one caption for every network, then give X, LinkedIn or any other network its own version. Every network's caption limit in one table.

One caption for everyone, and its own version where a network needs it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **In short:** The main caption goes to every account. Open a network's tab in the composer to give that network its own text; the tab then shows Own text. Each network's limit is checked as you type.

## Give a network its own caption

**1. Write the main caption**

It goes to every account you picked.

**2. Open a network's tab**

Under the caption, select the network's logo and write its version.

**3. Check the status**

Each network shows Same text, Own text or Needs a look. Needs a look means something breaks that network's rules.

## Saved text and signatures

Save snippets, hashtag sets and signatures in Settings, Publishing. In New post they sit as chips under the caption: select one to add it, or type `/` and part of its name to narrow the chips, then Enter adds the highlighted one and Esc closes them.

A signature belongs to one account. Switch on **Add to every post** and PostMesh adds it to the end of that account's caption when the post goes out, only where it fits. It is left out:

* On YouTube, in X threads and on a caption that is only a link
* When the accounts picked on one network have different signatures, since they share one caption
* When it would take the caption over the network's limit or break its other caption rules, such as the hashtag limit

Under each network's own caption, New post says whether the signature will be added and, if not, why; the counter includes it when it fits. A publish request with the form field `signature=off` goes out with no signature.

To pick the same accounts again later, pick two or more in New post, then **Save as preset** keeps them under a name. Presets show as chips under the accounts; remove them in Settings, Publishing.

## Templates

A template is a whole post setup saved to start from again: the accounts, the caption, each network's own text and its settings, such as Reddit's community and title. It never keeps media. Write a word in curly braces, like `{link}` or `{date}`, to leave a blank you fill in each time; `{date}` starts as the day the post goes out.

Make and edit templates on the Templates page, next to Posts in the sidebar, where signatures, snippets and hashtag sets have their own tabs. To keep the post you're writing as a template, use **Save as template** under the Save draft button.

In New post, ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows) searches your templates, snippets, signatures and hashtag sets together. A template asks for its blanks, then adds its accounts and puts its caption after what you've written; each network's own text and settings fill in only where the post has none yet, so nothing you wrote is replaced. A signature or hashtag set goes at the end after a blank line, and a snippet goes where your cursor was.

Assistants can use them too: `list_templates` lists your templates and `draft_from_template` starts a draft from one with its blanks filled.
