# Why a post failed and how to retry it

> Why a scheduled or published post failed on a network, what each common reason means, and how Retry sends the post again only to the accounts that failed.

Read the reason, fix it, and retry only the accounts that failed.

## What happens to a post

A post from draft to result · retry sends only what failed

A post is scheduled, processing, sent, failed or cancelled. Each account has its own result, so a post can be sent on four networks and failed on one.

## Retry

**1. Open the post in Posts**

Failed accounts show their reason.

**2. Fix the cause**

Reconnect the account, change the file or shorten the caption.

**3. Select Retry failed**

PostMesh sends again only to the accounts that failed. Accounts that already succeeded are skipped.

>
> When a network refuses a scheduled post because of a rate limit or an outage, PostMesh sends it again on its own, up to 3 times. Posts shows Retrying in 4 min (2/3) meanwhile, and the failure email waits for the last try. PostMesh never retries a post you sent straight from the composer, a failure you need to fix, or a send the network didn't confirm, so nothing posts twice without you.

## Common reasons

| Reason | Fix |
| - | - |
| Login expired or permission missing | [Reconnect the account](https://postmesh.app/docs/connect-accounts.md#reconnect-an-expired-login) in Connections. |
| File too large or wrong format | Check the limits on the network's page and export a smaller or different file. |
| Caption too long | Shorten it, or give that network its own caption. |
| Flair required (Reddit) | Pick a flair, or post to a community that doesn't require one. |
| Sent to your TikTok inbox | Open TikTok and finish the post there. |
| Publishing was interrupted | The send stopped for more than 10 minutes. Select Retry failed. |
| Delivery not confirmed | The network didn't confirm the post, so it may have gone out. PostMesh looks for it on the network and saves its link when it finds it. Otherwise check the account and answer the question on its row: choose Mark it live if it's there, or Retry this one if it isn't. Retry failed never sends it again. |

Very old posts saved without their account list can't be retried. Copy the text into a new draft instead.
