PMO stands for P*sses me off, or put me on. PMO is slang that usually means p*sses me off, as in TS PMO, this sh*t p*sses me off. It can also mean put me on, a request to be introduced to something or someone new. Context tells you which one is meant.

## What PMO means

PMO has two slang meanings, and they're nearly opposite in mood. [Know Your Meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/pmo-slang) lists both: p*ss me off (or p*ssing me off), meaning something is making you angry, and put me on, meaning introduce me to something, whether that's a song, a show, a hobby or a person.

The angry sense is the one you'll see most right now. Know Your Meme's January 2025 explainer calls it the most common recent usage. If a comment says "this traffic pmo", it means the traffic is making them furious. The put me on sense is a request or a credit: "pmo to that album" means tell me about it, and "she put me on" means she introduced me to it.

The two senses also sit differently in a sentence. The angry PMO usually comes at the end, often with the verb dropped: "this game pmo" means this game is p*ssing me off. The friendly PMO usually comes first and takes to: "pmo to a good book". When it's past tense, people tend to write the phrase out, as in "who put you on?", which asks who introduced you to something. That pattern is the quickest way to tell the two apart.

The tone is casual and a little crude. P*sses me off is mild compared with real swearing, but it's still not something you'd write in a work email. Put me on is perfectly friendly.

**P*sses me off**
- Something is annoying or angering you
- Most common sense right now
- Example: ts pmo

**Put me on**
- Introduce me to something or someone
- A request or a thank-you
- Example: pmo to good podcasts

*Same three letters, opposite moods.*

## Where PMO comes from

The angry sense is the older one. Know Your Meme says the earliest p*sses me off definition was posted to Urban Dictionary on December 20, 2005, and that the abbreviation kept turning up on Twitter through the late 2000s and 2010s, with examples from 2007 and 2018.

Put me on came later. Know Your Meme finds an Urban Dictionary definition from July 27, 2016, using the example of asking a friend to introduce you to someone at school, and says it's unclear who first used PMO this way. The abbreviation simply shortens the phrase put me on, meaning introduce me to something. According to Know Your Meme, the put me on sense spread on TikTok in 2021 and 2022, mostly in videos about setting friends up, with one October 2022 video passing 1.5 million views in five days.

Then the angry sense came roaring back. Know Your Meme says p*ss me off went viral on TikTok in late 2024 and early 2025, often paired with TS. That pairing turned into its own meme.

## What TS PMO and TS PMO ICL mean

TS PMO means this sh*t p*ssing me off. Know Your Meme's explainer breaks it down: [TS](/glossary/ts) stands for this sh*t, and PMO for p*ssing me off. It's an all-purpose complaint: about a game, a coworker, a plot twist or a slow Wi-Fi connection.

TS PMO ICL adds ICL, which Know Your Meme says stands for I can't lie. Its entry on the phrase describes a slang overload trend in which people pile abbreviations together, often using them wrong on purpose, to make nonsense posts that mock how the slang gets used. It dates the first viral example to a TikTok on December 21, 2024, and records a January 2025 video captioned with a string of abbreviations that collected roughly 462,900 likes in five days.

Know Your Meme also notes the trend sparked debate. Some people argued that piling up and garbling these abbreviations was a way of mocking and appropriating African American Vernacular English, and compared it to digital blackface. That's worth knowing if you're tempted to join in.

## How people use PMO on social media

On [TikTok](/platform/tiktok), the angry PMO is everywhere in captions and comments, usually as ts pmo, sometimes with extra slang stacked on for laughs. On [X](/platform/twitter), it shows up in complaints about sports, politics and customer service. In texts and group chats, both senses appear, and the put me on sense is common when people swap recommendations.

On Instagram and [Threads](/platform/threads), the put me on sense shows up in comments under posts about restaurants, music and products: a commenter asks to be put on, or thanks the poster for putting them on. It's a small, useful signal for creators, because a comment like that means the post did its job of introducing someone to something.

- Comment on a bad call in a game: "ts pmo fr"
- Text about a roommate: "he left dishes in the sink again, pmo"
- Group chat, asking for recommendations: "pmo to a good show, I finished everything"
- Crediting a friend: "she put me on to this café and now I'm here daily"
- Slang-overload joke: "ts pmo icl ngl fr"
- Complaint about an app update: "why did they move the button, this pmo"

## How to tell which PMO someone means

When the angry PMO arrives in a text, the person usually wants to vent more than they want a solution, so a quick "ugh, what happened" goes further than advice. When the friendly PMO arrives, they're asking you to share, so the best reply is a specific recommendation. To know which you've got, look at what's around it. If PMO comes after something that's going wrong, it means p*sses me off. If it comes before to, or follows a request for something new, it means put me on.

**What's around the PMO?**
- A complaint, or TS in front → It means p*sses me off. Commiserate or ask what happened.
- PMO to something → It means put me on. Share a recommendation.
- Someone put me on → They're crediting whoever introduced them. Say you're glad.
- A pile of other abbreviations → Probably a slang-overload joke. Don't overthink it.

- To ts pmo: "what happened" or "same, it's the worst"
- To pmo to a good show: "try the one I sent you last week"
- To thanks for putting me on: "told you it was good"

## When not to use it

The angry PMO is fine with friends, but keep it out of work messages, brand posts and anything formal. Even abbreviated, p*sses me off is crude, and TS PMO adds a swear word on top. A brand account complaining that something PMO will strike many followers as unprofessional.

Abbreviations also shut people out. Plenty of readers won't know PMO, and those who look it up will find two meanings that point in opposite directions. If you mean put me on, writing it out costs you a few letters and removes all doubt. If you're tempted by the slang-overload joke, remember the debate Know Your Meme describes about mocking AAVE, and consider whether the joke is worth it.

**Fine to use PMO when**
- [ ] You're texting friends who use it
- [ ] The meaning is obvious from the message
- [ ] It isn't a work chat, a brand post or a customer reply
- [ ] You're comfortable with the mild crudeness of the angry sense
- [ ] You aren't piling it into a joke that mocks how others talk

## Other meanings of PMO

| PMO | Meaning | Where you'll see it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| PMO | P*sses me off, or p*ssing me off | Texts, comments, TikTok |
| PMO | Put me on, as in introduce me to something | Texts, recommendations, TikTok |
| TS PMO | This sh*t p*ssing me off | TikTok, X, group chats |
| PMO | Principal medical officer, per Merriam-Webster | Medical and military titles |

Outside of slang, [Merriam-Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/PMO) lists PMO as an abbreviation for principal medical officer. Organizations also use PMO as initials for other office names, so in a work email or a news story, assume it's a title or department, not slang. If the sentence is about staff, budgets, hospitals or government, the slang meanings almost certainly don't apply, and you can read it as a job title or the name of an office.

PMO keeps company with other short slang. [TS](/glossary/ts) is its usual partner. [SYBAU](/glossary/sybau) is a much harsher way to express annoyance, aimed at a person rather than a situation. [SMH](/glossary/smh) is the gentler version of being fed up. And [fr](/glossary/fr), [ngl](/glossary/ngl) and [istg](/glossary/istg) are the intensifiers people stack on top to show they really mean it.
