# Mastodon scheduler: schedule posts to any server

> Publish to your Mastodon account on any server, now or on a schedule.

Yes. PostMesh publishes text, photo and video posts to your Mastodon account on any server, right away or scheduled up to 12 months ahead. It reads your server’s own limits before it sends, and you choose who can see each post.

## What you need

- A Mastodon account on any server.
- Your server’s name, like mastodon.social, or your full handle. You sign in on your server next.

## Mastodon at a glance

- **Account:** A Mastodon account on any server, connected with your server’s own sign-in. PostMesh registers itself with each server, so there’s nothing to set up.
- **Text:** Up to 500 characters on most servers. PostMesh reads your server’s own limit before it sends, and counts each link as 23, as Mastodon does.
- **Each post:** Text only, up to 4 photos or one video. A poll goes on a post without media.
- **Photos:** Any JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF up to 40 MB. Mastodon takes JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 16 MB, and gets a JPEG copy that fits when a photo doesn’t. These are Mastodon’s defaults; PostMesh checks against your server’s own.
- **Video:** MP4, WebM or MOV, up to 99 MB. Your server processes it first, and PostMesh posts once it’s ready.
- **Options:** Who can see it (public, quiet public, followers, or only the people you mention), a content warning the post folds behind, sensitive media, the post’s language and a poll of up to 4 options on a text post.
- **Scheduling:** Up to 12 months ahead. PostMesh sends it within a minute of the time you pick.
- **Analytics:** None yet: PostMesh doesn’t read Mastodon post metrics yet.

## How to post to Mastodon

1. **Connect Mastodon.** Type your server or full handle, then sign in on your server and approve PostMesh. We never see your password.
2. **Open New post.** Pick the Mastodon accounts you want, plus any other networks.
3. **Write the post.** Up to 500 characters on most servers, or your server’s own limit. Then set who can see it in Mastodon’s settings, and add a content warning, sensitive media, a language or a poll if you want them.
4. **Add media.** Add up to 4 photos (JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 16 MB) or one video (MP4, WebM or MOV, up to 99 MB), or keep it text only. Your server may allow more.
5. **Post now or schedule.** Under When, choose Now to send it right away, or Later and a time up to 12 months ahead.
6. **Check the result.** Posts shows whether Mastodon accepted it. If it failed, Retry failed sends again only to the accounts that failed.

## Not supported

- Threads of posts
- Photos and video in one post
- Polls with photos or video

## Fixes for common errors

- **“PostMesh couldn’t use that server”:** Check its name, like mastodon.social, or type your full handle instead.
- **Mastodon sign-in was cancelled:** Connect again and allow PostMesh to post.
- **The post is over your server’s limit:** PostMesh reads each server’s own limits before sending. Give Mastodon its own shorter version.

## What PostMesh can see

- **Sees:** Your username, server, display name and profile photo, and your server’s posting limits.
- **Never sees:** Your password, your direct messages, your timeline or your followers.

## Questions

### Does it work with my server?

Yes, with any Mastodon server. Type its name, like mastodon.social, or your full handle, and you sign in on that server.

### What if my server allows longer posts?

PostMesh reads your server’s own limits for text, photos, video and polls, and checks each post against them before it sends.

### Does PostMesh post to Mastodon automatically?

Yes. It posts through Mastodon’s official API at the time you pick. There’s no phone reminder to tap.

### How far ahead can I schedule Mastodon posts?

Up to 12 months. PostMesh checks its queue every minute and sends each post when it’s due.

### Can I post to several Mastodon accounts at once?

Yes. Pick every account you want in New post. Each one counts toward your plan’s connected-account limit.

### Can I change a scheduled post?

Yes. Open it in Posts, select Edit, make your changes and select Save changes. A post that has started sending can’t be changed.

### Is there a free plan?

No. Creator, Growth and Pro all start with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, and you can cancel before it ends.
