# X bio counter

Canonical: https://postmesh.app/tools/x-bio-character-counter

Paste your text to check it against X’s bio and name limits, counted the way X counts.

## How it works

Where X publishes a limit, the counter links to the page that states it. Where X doesn’t publish one, the limit is marked as reported: it’s the number X’s app is widely reported to enforce, and the app has the final say.

Where X counts emoji or accented letters differently, the counter does the same. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

## Steps

1. Type or paste your text.

2. Read the count against each limit.

3. Shorten anything marked over.

## X limits at a glance

| Field | Limit | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Bio | 160 characters | Reported, not on a help page |
| Name | 50 characters | [X Help: Username rules](https://help.x.com/en/managing-your-account/x-username-rules) |
| Username | 15 characters | [X Help: Username rules](https://help.x.com/en/managing-your-account/x-username-rules) |

## Questions

### Where do these X limits come from?

From X’s own documentation where it publishes one, linked under the counter. The others are marked as reported because X doesn’t state them on a help page.

### Is my text saved?

No. The count runs in your browser.

### Can PostMesh post to X for me?

Yes. PostMesh checks a post against X’s rules and publishes it now or on a schedule, along with the other networks you use.

Interactive controls are available on the HTML page. Image and text utilities run in the browser; AI writers submit descriptions to PostMesh and OpenAI.
