# YouTube channel counter

Canonical: https://postmesh.app/tools/youtube-channel-name-character-counter

Paste your text to check it against YouTube’s handle and channel description limits, counted the way YouTube counts.

## How it works

Where YouTube publishes a limit, the counter links to the page that states it. Where YouTube doesn’t publish one, the limit is marked as reported: it’s the number YouTube’s app is widely reported to enforce, and the app has the final say.

Where YouTube counts emoji or accented letters differently, the counter does the same. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

## Steps

1. Type or paste your text.

2. Read the count against each limit.

3. Shorten anything marked over.

## YouTube limits at a glance

| Field | Limit | Basis |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Channel description | 1,000 characters | [YouTube Data API: Channels](https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/docs/channels) |
| Handle | 30 characters | [YouTube Help: Learn about YouTube handles](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/11585688) |

## Questions

### Where do these YouTube limits come from?

From YouTube’s own documentation where it publishes one, linked under the counter. The others are marked as reported because YouTube doesn’t state them on a help page.

### Is my text saved?

No. The count runs in your browser.

### Can PostMesh post to YouTube for me?

Yes. PostMesh checks a post against YouTube’s rules and publishes it now or on a schedule, along with the other networks you use.

Interactive controls are available on the HTML page. Image and text utilities run in the browser; AI writers submit descriptions to PostMesh and OpenAI.
